The library offers the technology for Hendrick Hudson School District students to submit an application for kindergarten. Staff can scan your required documents for you so that they can be uploaded to your application. Please visit the Hendrick Hudson School District’s web page before you come in, to be sure you have all of your required documents.

We separate our books based on type and reading level! You will notice that many of the stickers on the books’ spine have a “J.” The “J” stands for “Juvenile,” which indicates that the books will be found in the Children’s Room.
JP = Juvenile Picture Book – This material is geared for children birth through upper elementary age. Organized alphabetically by the author’s last name.
JE = Juvenile Easy Reader – This material is geared toward children who are learning to read. Roughly for ages 5 to 7, or Kindergarten to Grade 2. Organized alphabetically by the author’s last name.
YR = Young Reader – This material is geared toward children who are at an intermediate reading level, before moving on to traditional chapter books. These books usually contain pictures and larger fonts, but are broken into chapters. Roughly for later Grade 2 to early Grade 4. Organized alphabetically by the author’s last name.
J Fiction = This material is geared for children who are reading full chapter books. Please be aware that these books are roughly for children in Grade 4 through Grade 8. The Children’s Room Juvenile Fiction does have books that are appropriate for early to upper Middle School. Organized alphabetically by the author’s last name.
J Graphic Novel = Our Graphic Novel section is appropriate for beginner readers up to Grade 8. These books are formatted similarly to comic books or manga. Organized alphabetically by the author’s last name.
J Nonfiction = Our Nonfiction is organized by the Dewey Decimal System, which categorizes our books based on the subject matter and subsequent subsections. If you are looking for a particular area of study, just ask one of our Children’s Librarians for assistance and they will guide you in the right direction. Geared for Kindergarten to Grade 8.
JB = Juvenile Biography – This material is geared for Kindergarten to Grade 8. Much like our other Nonfiction books, our Juvenile Biographies contain material for various reading levels. This section is organized alphabetically by the last name of the person you are looking for.
If you want a particular item but cannot find it on our shelves, ask the Children’s Librarian to place that item on Hold! This means we will order the item for you from any one of the other Westchester Libraries that own this item. It will then be shipped to our library for you to pick up.
Please note, once your Hold has arrived it will remain on our Holds Shelf for 8 days – if you do not pick up your item within this time, or if we do not hear from you after those 8 days are up, then the item you requested will return to its home library. If you know you will be unable to pick up your Hold within these 8 days, just let our Children’s Librarian or Circulation clerk know and we will extend your Hold date.
